Once visited by Oliver Cromwell and Henry VI, parts of Irton Hall date back to the 14th century. It retains traditional timber framing and other charming features, but offers modern amenities like free Wi-Fi. There are traditionally furnished rooms in the 14th-century tower, the converted ballroom, and separate self-catering apartments. All have a flat-screen TV, iPod dock, tea/coffee and a spacious modern bathroom. Irton Hall has as on-site bar, lounge and restaurant offering locally sourced produce and local ales and a range of beverages. Hearty full English breakfasts are served in the lounge bar, with a selection of lighter continental options also available. The hall is set at the foothills of the western fells of the Lake District, between Wasdale and Eskdale. It is a 10-minute drive from the Ravenglass Miniature Steam Railway and Muncaster Castle, with its owl sanctuary.
